I paint and teach nearly everyday. I love what I do. Painting energies me and at the same time is meditative. I have taught and mentored thousands of students in my studio, The Art Experience in Studio City, CA for 30 years. So, by now it is impossible to separate Manders the Artist from Manders the Teacher.

Teaching remains one of my truest pleasures and rewards, whether - regardless of your age - I am introducing you to painting, encouraging you to the next stage, or helping you create your portfolio for submission to art schools or professional employment.

At any age, art experiences contribute to development of critical thinking problem solving, focus, self-esteem, aesthetic awareness and creative expression. As children we are born creative and imaginative. These natural gifts must be nurtured and developed.

Part of each artist's life is to exhbit their art. So once a year I mount a Student Art Exhbition & Reception at my studio/art school, The Art Experience. The annual gala features paintings by my adult, teen, and child students from both my on-going group and private classes (student art above).

This is an important moment in an emerging artist's process:

"I wanted so much to express my appreciation for your open acceptance, your warmth and interest in everything that all of your students bring. It is obvious from all the different pieces Saturday night, that you invite each student to find themselves and to explore their own use of the brush and its expression. It is a gift to extend your creativity to energize someone else." CS

"It is wonderful to see how many people you inspire, and who love coming to your class. The people I spoke to last night who are your students and displaying their work told me that you are such an inpiration - you always encourage them, compliment them and work with them. You have allowed so many of us to go on and develop our artistic ability - what a gift you have given everyone who comes into your life." LD

"Thank you for the art show. It was fun to see our art works on display." CG

"Congratulations and thanks! The reception was wonderful. It was so nice to talk with the other artists (I still want to say "students") and learn about their art work. And it was fun to see everyone dressed up in clothes without oil stains! It felt like a celebration. And I can't describe the feeling of seeing my artwork displayed. What a high! BJ

"It was a wonderful exhibit. Your students are so talented and I'm proud to be in your class" FS

It is a great time to be an artist, to feel the energy. Artists of the past, present , and future are always with me. I imagine myself having a glass of wine with Hans Burkhardt, one of my mentors, along with his mentor Achille Gorky, and sharing in a passionate discussion about the perils and possibilities of humanity.

Burkhardt belived in me and encouraged me regularly. I am now a link between them and my students. The interaction of my work and that of my students is essential for both of us.

Being an artist is a wonderful life, Susan
